It’s been one and a half years since my last Stitch Fix box. As much as I loved getting a box every month, I had to take a break and soon that short break became a lot longer than intended. Since I was just getting into a great relationship with my stylist, I was hesitant to go back and start all over again. It took a few boxes in to really feel like my stylist knew what I liked and I wasn’t sure if it was going to be worth it. Stitch Fix must have been reading my mind because I received an email with a waived styling fee which made me finally delve back in.
Recap on how it works:
1) Fill out your Style Profile and schedule your first Fix.
2) Use your Pinterest board to your advantage! Pin what you love/hate and make notes. (Check out my board HERE.)
3) Get your Fix in the mail and decide what to keep and what to send back in the prepaid envelope.
4) Make notes on what you loved/hated in the Fix so your stylist knows for your next Fix.
5) Use the $20 stylist fee toward anything in the box. Keep it all and get 25% off everything.
I updated my Style Profile, wrote a note to my stylist with what I was looking for (unique yet classic staple pieces fit for a busy mom), and eagerly awaited to receive my box. There was a problem with the first one that was sent out (it never made it to me and instead was forwarded back to sender) but Stitch Fix was awesome and quickly sent out another box. Kudos to their customer service department. They’ve been great the few times I’ve had to reach out.
Liverpool – Anita Skinny Pant |
These jeggings perfectly fit me. The inseam is great for my petite legs and they’re super comfortable. The material is very silky and I love the quality. I could definitely wear this with a lot of what I already own and they look great with everything else in the box which is always a bonus. It’s the priciest of all the pieces so I feel like I really have to love it in order to purchase it, but it’s definitely a contender. $78 (size 2P)
Papermoon – Dani Cold Shoulder Knit Top |
I almost laughed when I pulled this out of the box. I’ve seen this trend coming but I never envisioned myself trying it. Of course, I had to give it a shot and try it on and I have to say that I was very pleasantly surprised. To my disbelief, this may or may not be my favorite item in the box just because its the item I least expected to like. I love the knit fabric with the subtle black/white striping. It’s super soft, drapes well, and I love the cut. I’m not a huge fan of flutter sleeves but I love it here. Definitely a huge contender although I’m still surprised by that. $34 (size XS)
Market & Spruce – Taylir Chambray Top |
I don’t actually own a chambray top (outside of one I use for costumes). I just don’t know how to wear them even though I know they’re a classic piece. The style card with the outfit suggestions helped me envision this with a skirt which sounds great to me. With this top, I liked the fabric, cut, and color. It fit very well although the sleeves were kind of tight rolled up like in the photo. I’d have to play with it more to see if I could make it more comfortable, but otherwise, it’s a solid piece. $58 (size XS)
Market & Spruce – Elmira Jacket |
This jacket is another piece I had luke warm feelings about. I have way too many olive military style jackets already so I wasn’t that excited to see this in my box. The color and material are great, but it isn’t a style I would ever pick out myself. The collarless neckline is something I feel like can only be worn with certain tops and I didn’t like it at first but it looks great with the two other tops in this box. After wearing it around a bit, I think this would be a great lightweight jacket for the spring. $68 (size S)
Heartloom – Iyla Pleated Woven Back Sweater |
This sweater was easily my first favorite from the box. I was drawn to it immediately and couldn’t wait to try it on. I love how soft and comfy it is and the pleated back detail is just perfect. The back is sheer though so I would have to wear a cami underneath to stay covered up or make sure I have a pretty bra on that doesn’t stand out too much. It fits a little shorter in the front that I usually like which is unusual for me. This one didn’t quite live up to my expectation of it after trying it on. Another negative of this piece is the fact it’s dry clean only. I specified from my first box that I couldn’t do dry cleaning so I was sad to see the care instructions. $58 (size S)
To be honest, my first impressions of this box were pretty disappointing. I didn’t feel like this box fit my style at all. My Pinterest board is full of skirts and I was sad that I didn’t get one skirt. I also felt like most of these pieces weren’t exactly staple pieces and could quickly go out of style. I tried everything on upon receiving the box and then put it away as I mulled over my disappointment.
After trying everything on again and talking about all the pieces with my husband, this box has really grown on me and ended up being a solid box considering my initial disappointment. I could easily see myself purchasing the entire box if it weren’t for a few minor problems. Ultimately, I think I’ll send this entire box back (since the styling fee was waived) and try again in hopes for more pieces that I’m totally in love with. I’ll make sure to leave some detailed notes for my stylist too. If the styling fee wasn’t waived, I think I’d choose the cold shoulder top over the rest (surprise, surprise!). Which one was your favorite?
