Found the perfect clock for above the fireplace. |
It’s been a whole year and more since I’ve updated this blog. I can’t believe 2016 flew by so quickly without a single blog post. Aside from settling into our house and finding the perfect decor, let’s do a recap of some highlights of our 2016. If I get a chance to, I’d love to go back in depth on some of these.
Q&A with the entire cast of Captain Fantastic. |
Sundance has been a tradition of ours for many years now (thanks to the Sabins) and we went to two films in 2016: Love & Friendship and Captain Fantastic. Both are available now so you can easily find them. Love & Friendship was hiliarous and a different kind of Jane Austen story than we were used to. I enjoyed it but Captain Fantastic was my favorite of the year. It was also my favorite movie from Sundance up to that point. Both movies had a Q&A afterward which is always a nice way to complete the day.

A day at Hollywood Studios. |
I went to Amelia Island in Florida for a Perfectly Posh event (read about it) and extended my stay to spend a day at Hollywood Studios. It was definitely something outside of my comfort zone, but I didn’t want to miss a chance in Disney World if I was already in Florida. I got to hang out at the Omni Amelia Island Plantation resort for a few days for the Posh event before I drove 3 hours to Disney World to make it in time for the rope drop. It was a cold and exhausting day, but I’m so glad I worked up the courage to make the trip.
The view from Kerry Park. |
Another roadtrip to Portland and Seattle resulted in taking in all the super touristy 10 Things I Hate About You sites like Kerry Park, Gas Works Park, and the Fremont Troll. We also spent a lot of time in bookstores: Amazon and Powell’s City of Books. Packing all our book purchases into our tiny car was an adventure for the ride home.
Exploring local destinations. |
Camping with friends and family is one of our favorite ways to spend the summer. It’s nice that we have so many options within driving distance that we can go to. The parks were pretty dry this year, but we managed to get some hiking in to pass the time. A bucket and a shovel have made their way onto our camping list because that’s all the kids needed to keep themselves busy.
Bryce Canyon National Park |
We spent a weekend in Southern Utah visiting Zion, Bryce Canyon and the Shakespeare Festival. It had been awhile since the last time we were in Zion and the kids and I had never been to Bryce before. We were able to catch the last showing of Mary Poppins which was awesome. This was the second show we took the kids to the Shakespeare Festival and they’ve been wanting to go back for more.
Our Comic Con crew after spending an entire day in Hall H! |
And of course I can’t forget about our trip to San Diego Comic Con! This was our 5th year attending and it was the best one by far soley because Saturday in Hall H was so epic. After waiting in line since 1 PM the day before and then Rowley taking one for the team by holding our place in line overnight, we made it into Hall H for for the legendary Saturday panels. Eddie Redmayne personally gave us wands so we could lumos maxima the room and Kevin Feige made sure we all went home with Marvel Studio hats.
2016 flew by so quickly and yet I was so busy that blogging was very low on my priority list, hence no new posts in awhile, but I am trying to make up for it and hopefully get back into regular routine for 2017.
