I’ve been searching for the perfect knit jumpsuit pattern for awhile now and this is it! This isn’t technically a jumpsuit, but the version I made ticked all the boxes I was looking for and I’m so excited to finally have a pattern like this in my collection.

When I first saw the options for the Rey Overalls from Petite Stitchery, I knew immediately I wanted to make the tie strap bodice. I’m a sucker for styles like that and actually opted out of testing the pattern at first because I had so much on my plate. But as the month went on and I finished my other projects, I still couldn’t get this style out of my head. I had one more piece of fabric that I wanted to make something with and even tried to find a different knit jumpsuit pattern before I realized that I really just wanted to make the Rey. Luckily, I was able to jump on board while it was still in testing because this really is the knit overall of my dreams!
Pattern
Rey is packed with versatility. It has 3 size ranges: baby, kid, and adult. All sizes come with a variety of options including different lengths, pant widths and strap/bodice styles. It can even be made as separates which means this doubles as a jogger or knit pant/short/short pattern. It really will be a staple in your pattern collection and one that you’ll use a lot. I personally am excited to finally have a pant style that Isabelle likes and am excited to make more versions for her.
The pattern is straight forward and easy to follow. It does have a lot of options which can be a little overwhelming at first, but the instructions help guide you through the steps you need with ease. I made the tie strap bodice with slimmed legs and cuff for myself and a tie strap bodice with straight legs for Isabelle. They were quick to make and we’re both living in them which is a huge win.
Size
For myself, I made a straight XS. I considered grading the pattern, but realized I didn’t need to because the overall sits low on my hips rather than my waist. If I were to make the high waist pants separate, I’d definitely size up to a small or grade for my waist. For length, I decided to shorten the pants by 3 inches before adding the cuff and it fits exactly how I wanted it to.
For Isabelle, I made a straight size 10. She didn’t want the slimmed legs or cuff so I just hemmed at the bottom and it’s the perfect length. I like the idea that if she gets taller, I can easily add a cuff in the future.
Note: During testing, Isabelle and I were focused on the pockets so you’ll find more coverage in the pockets in the final pattern compared to our tester versions here.
Fabric
Mine: I used a charcoal bamboo french terry gifted to me by the Fabric Fairy. I picked this fabric out with a completely different project in mind before ultimately making the Rey. I couldn’t get the idea of a french terry overall out of my head which is how we ended up here and I’m behind excited with the result. The fabric is so comfortable and has the coverage I want. It was easy to work with and I am reminded every time I wear this that I need more french terry in my life.
Isabelle: I used a Stof Avalana jersey constellation print knit purchased from Spun Honey Fabrics. It’s my first time using this brand and I loved it. The final make is comfortable enough that Isabelle has chosen to wear it for days on end. She’s picky about comfort level so this speaks volumes.
This is a pattern I would’ve gladly purchased if I didn’t have a chance to test it. I would highly recommend it for all ages and love that it’s great for boys too! I can’t wait to make more versions of this for Isabelle and myself. It’s on sale for a limited time since it’s a new release. Grab it in any of the 3 size ranges below:
