Fall is my favorite season. I love the crispness in the air, the changing of the leaves, and all the nostalgia that comes along with it. It also happens to be the season I get the most style inspiration from so I was ecstatic to be included in the Style Maker Fabrics Fall Style Tour 2020. It was tricky narrowing it down with so many beautiful fall/winter fabrics, but I ultimately chose to make an outfit that I could wear together or separately. You never know how things will look once it’s all done, but I am so happy with how it all came together.

Fabrics
I love the color palette of fall and Style Maker Fabrics has done an amazing job with this collection. It’s always hard to know what a fabric will look like in person, but everything I’ve ever received from them has exceeded expectations. As much as I wanted to go with one of the beautiful prints, I knew I’d get more wear out of the solid options. For my fall staple pieces, I chose the Slub French Terry Sweater Knit for my top and the Solid Texture Linen Blend in rust for my slacks.
If you’re intimidated by knits, I’d highly recommend the french terry option. It’s a breeze to sew with and looks super luxe. If you haven’t tried Style Maker Fabrics’ texture linen blend yet, it’s quickly becoming one of my most favorite fabrics for its look and feel. You may also find yourself wanting all the colors.
Patterns + Details
For my top, I used the Elliot Sweater pattern by Helen’s Closet. The french terry was ideal for this pattern and I love how quick and easy it was to sew. I made a size 4/6 in view B with the neck of view A. No modifications were needed. I’m not usually into crop lengths, but this top is definitely changing my mind. It fits perfectly and makes the dreamiest pairing with these slacks. It’s also super warm and something I could see myself wearing with high waisted jeans often.
For my slacks, I used the Free Range Slacks pattern by Sew House Seven. The linen blend offers a beautiful hand while the rust color gives all the fall vibes. I made the tapered version in size 00, based off my 33″ hip measurement, and shortened 2″ in the legs, for my 5 foot height. My waist puts me in a size 6, but I found sizing down addressed any problems I had with my previous version while also offering plenty of ease in the elastic for comfort. I will likely be wearing this more often than not for the rest of the year.
After finishing up this outfit, I rushed back to the sewing machine to add a matching knotted hair scarf. Since it’s essentially a tube with angled short edges, it was super simple to make and a great way to use leftover scraps.
Overall Thoughts
I set out to make something that was quintessentially me and I could not be prouder with the final results. I’ve been focusing on more separates this year and I already know these pieces will be staples in my wardrobe. I’m all about comfort and these pieces easily offer that while also looking extremely put together. They represent the perfect fall outfit to me and I can’t wait to wear them all season long.
