Whether you call it a floor pouf, cushion, or pillow, you’ve probably seen these home decor darlings around. If you’re a sewist on Instagram, then chances are high that you’ve seen a version or two filled with fabric scraps. I’ve been hoping to make one to house my scraps for awhile and now I can finally say I’ve done it!
*This fabric was provided to me for free as a member of the Minerva Makers team. All views and opinions are my own.
Floor cushion are where my handmade wardrobe journey really began. I made a couple for the kids way back when and it sparked something in me that helped me realize how much I enjoyed sewing. Everything quickly kickstarted from there and the rest is history. It’s funny how far I’ve come in 3 years.
This is easily one of the easiest projects you can make and can be filled with your choice of filling. The ones I made for the kids were filled with bean bag filler, but this one is meant to be filled with all my fabric scraps. I love that it gives me a way to put my fabric waste to use.
Currently, this cushion is really only 1/3-1/2 full of scraps. (For the photos, I filled it with other things to give it a fuller look.) I didn’t really think about it before starting, but I made this a bit bigger than I probably should’ve. It’s going to hold a TON of scraps for the foreseeable future and will get pretty weighed down. Since I don’t see sewing every ceasing in my future, I think it’ll be fun to add to and we’ll see when it gets truly too full that it won’t hold more scraps.
If you’re not going to stuff it full of scraps, this size would also be great to hold extra blankets, stuffed animals, pillows, etc. I may end up doing that with the kids’ cushions too.
Have you made a floor cushion yet? What are you doing with your fabric scraps? I’d love to know! Read more about how I made this cushion over on my Minerva post. Be sure to give me a follow and let me know what you think too.
