I’ve wanted a knit jumpsuit just like this one for so long, but didn’t find the perfect pattern until True Bias released their Nova Jumpsuit. The pattern was exactly what I was looking for so I grabbed a copy and naturally sat on it for months which happens way too often around here. It wasn’t until I spotted this beautiful fabric that I finally decided to make a Nova Jumpsuit. It was a very pleasant make and I am now calling this my not-so-secret secret pajamas.
*This fabric was provided to me for free as a Minerva Brand Ambassador. All views and opinions are my own.
Sizing
I made version B with elastic at the waistband and ankles. I made size 0, cut size 4 for the waistband elastic, and shortened it by 2 inches. I also ended up shortening the straps of the front bodice by 1 inch. For next time, I’ll shorten the straps of both bodices by 1 inch. I may also cut the front neckline a little higher.
Fabric
I used an Art Gallery jersey knit from Minerva for this make. I only needed about 2 yards which is great for anyone with similar measurements to mine. This is the perfect fabric for this pattern! It’s very soft, easy to sew with, and completely opaque. This fabric is absolutely perfect for this jumpsuit and I can’t wait to wear it all spring and summer long.
Pattern
The Nova Jumpsuit is a very well written and drafted pattern which is what I’ve come to expect from True Bias. The only problem I had was with the finishing of the straps. You can hand sew it at that one part, but I chose to machine stitch mine and it took me a couple of tries to make sure I caught the facing. If you’re sewing with a less stable knit, that part might be the hardest, but go slowly and you’ll get through it.
The pattern is written to be used with a regular sewing machine with the stretch stitch setting and can be fully made without a serger. If you have a serger, it’ll advise you to use a serger in a few parts, but you won’t be using a serger for the entire make. All in all, it was a very fun pattern to sew through and I’d definitely recommend it.
This is also the first make I got to use one of my labels on! I chose the Seize the Day label and I’m really happy with how it looks on the fabric. I can’t help but sing the song from Newsies every time I see it.
