I’m a huge fan of faux one-piece styles and I’m here to share another one! I have details on my Minerva post, but wanted to share a bit more of my thoughts of each pattern here.
*This fabric was provided to me for free as a Minerva Brand Ambassador. One pattern was gifted for testing purposes. All views and opinions are my own.
Fabric
I used a rayon print from Art Gallery Fabrics for this make. (Gifted by Minerva in exchange for a post on their site.) It’s a print from the Flower Child collection designed by Maureen Cracknell. I’ve loved this print for awhile and was very excited to finally use it for something. Rayon is a great fabric for its comfort and drape, but it I have to admit I didn’t love doing the bias binding on the top. Other than that, I am very happy with the fabric choice and am glad I chose to make these two pieces with it.
Ashton Top Pattern
I made the Ashton Top pattern from Helen’s Closet in a size 6 in view b. I actually meant to make the longer version, but completely spaced it before cutting out the fabric. The only mod I made was a 1 inch small bust adjustment that nearly eliminated the darts. I like the cropped length to wear with high waisted bottoms, but I wouldn’t wear this length often with that. To tuck it in, I’d definitely make the longer length next time.
The only trouble I had with this pattern was with the bias binding. I chose to do the bias binding over the facing. I’m a big fan of bias binding, but quickly regretted that decision as I was reminded how hard it is to work with rayon sometimes. Next time around, I think I would do the facing to avoid all that finickiness.
Fernway Culottes Pattern
I tested for the Fernway Culottes pattern from Twig + Tale years ago and it remains one of my go-to pants patterns. It only takes 2 yards for my size and I love how different it looks depending on fabric choice. This time, I made size f and shortened about 5 inches from the calf length. It drapes so beautifully in rayon and the bunching of the fabric isn’t too overwhelming in the back. I’m also a big fan of the two elastic casings in the back. It makes adjusting for fit so much easier.
For this make, I used my cotton Mindfully Made label. It sewed in quite nicely in the bias binding of the top and I don’t have any problems with it being scratchy or uncomfortable.
