We took the kiddies to the “Day Out With Thomas” event this year. It was our first time going and definitely a memorable thing for Jadon to do since he is so train obsessed.

So basically, they had a real life Thomas train there that pulled some passenger cars you could ride on and a little mini Thomas fair. When we first got there, we went and bought some tickets and wondered a little bit before waiting to board. I swear all the kids there were having a magical experience as they watched Thomas come back to the station. Annie and Clarabelle (the cars Thomas normally pulls) weren’t there since he was just “visiting,” so that was kind of a disappointment, but Jadon definitely didn’t care. We boarded the train and they had a Thomas CD playing that had songs and trivia on it. Jadon, of course, recognized the songs and it was a nice touch to an otherwise boring ride.

This was Jadon and Isabelle’s first ride on a train. Jadon was timid at first and sat very still in the seat that wasn’t next to the open window. When the train started and he adapted, he switched over to the open window and loved waving to the people outside the train.

I think the train ride was advertised to be 25 minutes long, but I’m not really sure it lasted that long. All we did was go one way on the track for a little while then came right back the way we came. Not exactly worth the price of the tickets, which was roughly $20 a ticket. Thank goodness Isabelle was free. She had no idea what was going on and was ready to jump out of our laps by the end of the ride.

The price of the tickets also included a wristband to participate in the other activities available there. Jadon got a map that he was supposed to get stamped at the different locations to receive a prize, which he really enjoyed showing off later. There was a haystack maze that Jadon ran through and a mini-golf course that Jadon loved. He got a temporary tattoo of Henry (his choice) on his cheek, which is still there now that I think of it… It’s been a little while too. Oops. They had a big tent of Thomas tracks and toys for the kids to play with and an entertainment tent with random things going on, like a magic show and percussion guy. And don’t forget the huge tent filled with Thomas stuff on sale. We were able to convince Jadon to get an inexpensive toy he couldn’t just go to Target to buy. He also showed his map at the exit of the sale tent for a little Thomas toy.

Overall, I think going to see Thomas was something every little Thomas/train obsessed kid should go do, but it definitely was a bit pricier for what it was. For us, it was over an hour long car ride both ways too. Kind of a pain and I’m not sure we’ll be going back again, but Jadon loved it and I guess that’s all that really matters. He’s going to remember this for a long time.
